I started a new job this week. The parking lot is marginally less boring than the last place. This S2000 was parked next to me today when I left for lunch. I’d like to think they chose the spot out of mutual respect for fine automotive taste.

I’ve definitely chosen to park next to people I knew wouldn’t ding me. I even made a friend after explaining to a guy that decided to park next to his GL63 because he was as obsessively careful about choosing spots as I am and I knew I could trust him.
ETA: when you drive a big sedan, it’s nice to find a parking buddy who manages to stick out farther.
ETATA: Pretty sure the S2000 owner agrees and sees you the same way.

I am a terrible person to park next to for this purpose because despite my best efforts to not ding people, my doors are really long, and they come to a nice point thanks to a crease that intersects the longest point along the edge of the door.

It’s like BMW actually designs to a stereotype

To my credit, I very often have contorted myself around a only-slightly-opened door in order to avoid dinging people. But sometimes a gust of wind grabs it or I fail to hold it exactly in place because even opening it to the first stop along the hinge would be hitting the car next to me. #coupelyfe

What about work car enemies?
I just did a google image search on work car enemies and I found this:
And this:

My work car enemies are the two late model VW GTIs with red painted brake calipers that I’ve spotted (so far). One of them often parks next to a Corrado, which is not my enemy, and does not have red brake calipers.

Hey now.
I’ve got a work parking buddy with a Maserati at my current job.
Back when I worked at Apple I hardly ever went to the HQ but when I did I would try to park with the McLarens and Ferrari and Lamborghinis. Hated the job like you wouldn’t believe but my god did I love the parking garage.

I have this vague recollection that Steve Jobs had a Stirling Moss SLR, although Google isn’t confirming it. I choose to believe that you were parking next to it.

Scott Forstall is that you?

Whoa. Jesus. No but that’s a rather informed guess.

Mercedes SL55 and never with a license plate and more often than not parked in a handicapped spot apparently. I’d never met the guy.

D’oh. I don’t know why I thought it was a Stirling Moss.

There’s also a red S2K at my job. It’s pretty much the only other interesting car there. Most of my other coworkers drive boring crossovers.

Why aren’t you parked in an end spot???????????????????

I’m so glad I don’t need a front plate.
